Supplements to Start with On Phase One

Most people are familiar with multivitamin supplements, which provide one with a broad array of nutrients. The purpose of a multivitamin is to ensure that you regularly get all the vitamins and minerals you need, often beyond what the recommended daily allowance is for any given nutrient, for the purpose of maintaining good health. But walking into a health food store reveals a dizzying array of vitamins, minerals, spices, herbs and other nutrients. Each of these products may serve one or many purposes in the body. However, if you are not familiar with what these products do, simply walking into the store can be overwhelming.

On the Phase One Diet, you are focusing on the most critical component of your health––your diet. On The Phase One Diet, you are eliminating sugar, grains, corn, starchy foods, sweeter fruits, most dairy, alcohol, peanuts and pistachios. Instead, you are focusing on lean meats, fish, eggs, vegetables, limited fruits, nuts and healthy fats. This diet, rich in phytonutrients, healthy fats, protein and fiber, is a nutritive diet, supplying you with a broad spectrum of nutrients. This, itself, is an excellent improvement on the standard American diet.

This is a critical change people must make in their pursuit of good health––fundamentally changing the way they eat. Furthermore, it bears repeating; supplements, alone, are usually not enough to address any particular health issue. However, combined with proper diet and exercise, supplements can be the extra push towards achieving good health that many of us need. Supplements’ efficacy is compounded when other elements of health are in line; it is a full-spectrum, unilateral approach to vibrant health.

Here are some supplements that might be beneficial when starting on the Phase one Diet:

Natural Anti-Fungals
Many foods, herbs, spices, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients exhibit some level of anti-fungal activity. However, there are certain supplements particularly well equipped at fighting pathogenic fungi inside the body. These supplements include oil of oregano, olive leaf extract, grapefruit seed extract, supplemental cinnamon or cinnamon oil, garlic and many others. These are best when used in rotation.

Particularly, psyllium hulls, which is known to bind to mycotoxins and sweep them out of the gut. This will also aid in regularity.

These are critical to gut health and health overall. When these cultures are damaged, fungi and yeasts can flourish in the gut. Maintaining a healthy flora is critical to health and protection against pathogenic fungi.

Fish Oil
Fish oil is one nutrient that exhibits anti-fungal activity, but it is the myriad of other health benefits for the heart, circulatory system and brain that make this an excellent supplement to include in your regimen on the Phase one Diet.
