Health Benefits of Macadamia Nut Oil



On any Phase of the Kaufmann Diet, you are encouraged to include healthy oils in to your diet. These types of oils include olive oil, coconut oil and flax seed oil. Typically, extra virgin, cold-pressed and organic oils are preferred.


On the other hand, you are encouraged to avoid hydrogenated oils, shortening and vegetable oils. Science continues to affirm that these types of oils may actually do more to contribute to heart disease than they do to prevent it, as was once thought. And, as peanuts are excluded from all Phases of the Kaufmann Diet, you are advised to avoid peanut oil


Healthy oils have a number of benefits associated with them, including heart and circulatory system support, skin health, and mental function. (Your brain is mostly made of fat; feeding it healthy fats is good for it!) Their use in the kitchen is obvious, both for cooking and as raw ingredients.


There is one oil that gets mentioned less than others but is an excellent addition to the Kaufmann Diet: Macadamia nut oil. Macadamia nut oil has a rich, buttery taste and has uses beyond just the kitchen––many people use macadamia nut oil on their skin and hair. Regardless, macadamia nut oil comes with a legion of benefits. 


Macadamia Nut Oil is Excellent for Cooking

Macadamia nut oil is excellent for cooking because of its high smoke point of over 400 degrees Fahrenheit. It is typically higher than olive oil. This is important, because when oil begins to burn, it denatures and loses many of its health benefits, possibly become carcinogenic. 


This makes macadamia nut an excellent alternative for cooking when higher temperatures are needed.

Macadamia oil is rich in nutrients, polyphenols, and monounsaturated fat. It is highly caloric, which is not necessarily a bad thing! 


Calories are the energy your body needs in order to run properly; macadamia nut oil constitutes a nutritious and delicious way of giving your body the energy it needs. 


Heart Health

Like olive oil, Macadamia nut oil is rich in monounsaturated fats. These, of course, are associated with healthy cholesterol levels and a healthy heart. Interestingly too, macadamia nut oil has a balanced omega 3 to omega 6 ratio of 1:1, which is the optimal balance of these two essential fatty acids.

Macadamia nut oil is rich in certain antioxidants, many of which are beneficial for skin health and eye health; some of the antioxidants in macadamia nut oil have been shown to prevent macular degeneration.
